Damani looked around himself on the street as he walked along, unable to believe he'd moved this far from Liverpool in an effort to escape DE attacks. Things seemed to be getting worse every day, attacks in every paper, even the muggle ones. It wouldn't be long until he would actually have to leave the country to rid himself of the Death Eater's and if nothing happened soon he didn't even know if that would work.
He found the local pub he had heard some of his mate's talking about and opened the door, ducking in just as it had begun to rain, muttering to himself about horrible miserable english weather.

Rain poured down around Nate in sheets, drenching him completely to the bone. A shiver crawled across his skin as a cold gust of wind seemed to blow right through him. He was cold, tired, and hungry. He'd been travelling for weeks, and hadn't eaten in days. The last of his money had been stolen from him almost two weeks before in a mugging. He got out of it moneyless and shoeless, a giant gash across his forehead. He hadn't cared what happened as long as he lived.
He moved from town to town under fall of night, working for his meals and a place to sleep at various pubs and inns he came across. Nate just couldn't sleep at night. Whenever he did his mind would be over run with horrific scenes of terrified screams, fire, and malicious laughter. He always woke from these nightmares covered in a cold sweat, screaming for the nightmares to stop. The attack truly had twisted his mind. Forced to relive those moments of seeing his friends and loved ones torn viciously apart, houses burning with the sounds of pain filled screams sounding from within.
No...he couldn't sleep at night. The nightmares didn't seem as bad if he slept in the day he found.
But this cold night for some reason he couldn't take it. He needed to sleep. Needed to let his mind rest. He wandered around the streets of the small town he found himself in, looking for an inn or pub he might be able to find some food and rest in exchange for work. Everywhere he looked though the lights were out, some buildings even had the windows and doors boarded up. They looked like that had been abandonned weeks ago. It wasn't until he turned a corner that he heard music and laughter drifting towards him from a small pub down the way. A sigh of relief escaped him and the bitterness of the cold around him seemed to lessen slightly. Making his way trough the downpour he ran towards the building hoping to find something to help make things a little easier. When the warmth of the room encased him as he fought to get through the doors, Nate let out a soft sigh before collapsing into a chair feeling as thought he was going to pass out. When a busty barmaid made her way over to him, he smiled up at her hoping she was willing to lend a hand to a man down on his luck.

Damani shook the rain out of his hair, and off his jacket, looking around with keen eyes he made his way to the bar and sat down, draping his jacket over the back of the chair. He leaned forward, looking up into the barmaids eyes instead of into her cleavage like most of the men around him and quirked a small smile.
"I'll have a pint of Guinness if you don't mind luv," He was polite, not leering but his voice was soft, the accent deeper than those in this present area. He leaned back in his tall chair and ran his hand through his hair pushing it out of his eyes, scars marring most of the flesh that was visible, silver lines along his skin but yet in his eyes there was the thrill of happiness.
Continuing to look around Damani wasn't sure if these would be the type of people welcoming to homosexuals, then again lately wizards and witches seemed to be accepting almost anyone in an effort to prove they were more open and better then DE. Kill them with kindness he thought to himself, smiling once again.
When the barmaid gave him his drink he toasted her, "Cheers luv," He took a deep drink, feeling the liquid slide down his throat and into his stomach was more of a comfort that he had been offered lately.

"Please miss I'm begging you...I haven't eaten in days!" Nate pleaded as he followed the barmaid to the bar. She had refused his offer to help around the pub in exchange for food. This wasn't the first time it had happened and usually when he was turned away Nate would just nod silently and continue on his way. This night was different though. His insides felt like they were being torn apart from pain of hunger. The thought of spending another night out in the rain caused him to shiver as he followed the young girl back to the bar.
"Please, there must be something I can help with." he begged as his hands gripped the bar counter. "I'm not asking for much...all I need is a small bite to eat and a place to sleep. I said I'd work for it..." he continued, his eyes shut tight as he shook his head. His grip on the counter tightened and his knuckles turned white. He was about to continue with his plea when he felt a strong hand grab his arm, and he looked up to see a large brute of a man glaring down at him, and he knew exactly what would happen next.
Seconds later he was tossed out into the rain, landing with a thud into the street. "Dammit..." he cried, his fist pounding the ground and splattering mud around. Hot painful tears streaked down his cheeks as he lay there in the muck. For the first time since all this had happened to him, he wished he was dead.

Damani watched all the fuss with great intrigue and rifling in his pockets pulled out some money, slapping it down on the bar. He couldn't even see if it was the right amount before he picked up his coat and left. This certainly wasn't the type of establishment he would like to be in.
Looking around outside Damani was disappointed to find out that it had gotten dark, sending his vision into what was almost a tunnel. "Uhm 'ello? Person who was just tossed from pub?" He called softly. "Are you looking for a job?" He hated the night and cursed himself softly for being so feeble, so bloody weak.
He couldn't see three feet from his face, a brand new Auror, and third month into the job he was getting retirement 'with honours' and a severance package for being a 'hero.' It was bloody ridiculous.

Nate looked back at the voice that had called out to him, a dark figure standing in the light of the doorway from the pub. Slowly he managed to get to his feet with a sigh. "Name's Nate." he said, wiping the mud from his face. "And it's not just a job I'm looking for...it's a life." he continued as he pushed his hair out of his face, using the rain to slick it back. "So if it's a job you can help me with...that would be greatly appreciated."
Letting out a long sigh he looked up at the cloudy sky as the rain fell upon him. "...but I'm the only one who can find myself a new life."

Damani turned towards him, but didn't seem to see him, almost sightless blue eyes staring out into the darkness. "If you wouldn't mind stepping closer so I can see you, within the three foot range." He chuckled nervously.
"I'm nearly blind you see. And if you wouldn't mind having to take care of another person, I could give you a job and a place to stay." He suggested, pushing his hands into his coat. "There are just certain things I can no longer do for myself." [/color] His whole being, his training was screaming at him to not do this, that this was a stranger, could be someone dangerous but there had been something in Nate's voice.
"I'm Damani Kendrick by the way," He introduced with a confidence he certainly no longer felt.

Nate looked over at Damani with a raised eyebrow. He then sighed and shrugged, silently stepping closer to the man to allow the light from the pub to cast over him.
"Nice to mee you Damani." he said quietly, his hands shoved in his pockets as he stared down at the ground like a broken man. He was a sorry sight to see indeed. Dirty blonde hair was drenched against his head, falling down just below his neck. His skin was pale, his cheeks and eyes sunken in, giving his green eyes a haunted hollow look. He wore a worn and dirty overcoat over a tattered and torn dress shirt that might have been white at some point in its life. His legs were adorned with a pair of ratty brown trousers, and on his sockless feet he wore a pair of tattered brown shoes that were two sizes too big which he had received as payment from his last job.
He looked up at Damani and smiled slightly. "So...what exactly is it that you need to me do?"

"Well the first things first, I need to get back home before it gets so dark I cannot see at all," Damani fished the address out of his pocket and held it out to Nate. "I've just moved from Liverpool...I...well I had to, for me own safety." He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, taking in a deep breath. "And I'll see about getting you some new clothes, you might fit in some of my old kit." He found himself unaffected by Nate's appearance, after you'd seen your best mates blown to bits by spells you didn't even know existed you kind of got used to seeing the sad side of life. [/b]

Nate sighed softly and took the piece of paper. He looked down at the address as he scratched the back of his head. Shoving the piece of paper in his pocket he cast his eyes over to the practically blind man before him. "So in what direction would you place be exactly?" he asked as he stepped over to stand next to Damani. "I have no idea where anything is in this town."

Damani smiled, trying not to let his insecurities inhibit his life further than it already was. "It's this way," He began walking, each step careful. "We can take a coach if you can flag one down." He passed Nate some money, each of his movements slow as though he was afraid of injuring himself.

Nate blinked and watched Damani for a moment before following him with a sigh. After contemplating it a moment he gently took the mans elbow to let him know that he wouldn't fall with Nate around. After taking the money that Damani offered him, he looked around for a coach to wave down for them. "So what does your place look like anyway?" as he spotted one and quickly waved it down.
When the coach stopped in front of them Nate carefully helped Damani in and sat across from him. After Damani gave the directions, Nate closed the door and sat in silence for a moment as the cocah moved. "...just so you know...I tend to sleep durring the day." he said quietly after a few minutes. "I'm...I'm not able to sleep at night.":

"Perfectly fine as I tend to be quite capable in the day, it's the night I have a problem with," Damani responded easily, turning to squint through the darkness at what he believed to be Nathaniel's shadow, it was where the sound was coming from.
"It's just a nice bungalow, one level so I don't have to worry about stairs. It was paid for by the Ministry."He explained, he wouldn't have been able to afford his home otherwise.[/b]

"That sounds nice." Nate said with a sigh as he leaned back in his seat and looked out the window. "Just so you know I don't need much to get by. Just a small room with a bed is good for me. I don't need anything fancy."
He never would have imagined himself saying something like that. Back home before the attack he lived in a rather large house full of beautiful luxurious furniture. He definitly had been accustomed to the very fine things in life. But after living with nothing the last few weeks, he knew that he never really needed any of it.

"You won't be getting just a small room, I don't think there's a singular small room in the house," Damani glanced up from his lap when the carriage rolled to a stop, "I think we've arrived." He said softly, moving his hand carefully to the door he managed to undo the latch.[/b]
