((An RP that I started at Komori's site but couldn't finish when his site closed down...))
Memories.
They make us who we are, bring forth new emotions within us, create visions and dreams that were to last for eternity.
Memories, no matter how small, will always be a part of us.
But what if, those memories were too painful to bear? What if those memories brought nothing but pain?
Then, are those memories worth keeping?
Kyo stood there, head raised high to watch the hands of the clock at the top of the tower move. Seven years. That's how long he had been away from this tiny, sleepy town. The brick walls that he used to climb over and vandalise were now painted a dull grey. Besides the fresh, new coats of paint on the school walls, nothing much had changed. He could still see the large tree that had provided shelter from the merciless sun countless of times. Kyo jammed his hands into the pockets of his pants as he continued gazing longingly at the school's clock tower. How he had missed it. A gentle breeze blew, picking up the autumn leaves off the ground, twirling them around, as if in a dance before setting them down again. The ends of his untucked shirt was lifted briefly before the wind died out.
A sigh escaped his parted lips.
Seven years...
Of running.
Of guilt and sorrow.
Seven years of regret.
Finally, he was back home.
In a month's time, winter would come to chase the autumn away. In a month time, the calm colours of autumn would give way to the splendid but monotonous sea of white.
In a month's time, when the first snowflake fell.
Kyo would have left.
'Ch.'
Kyo continued standing before the high metal school gates, a feeling of nostalgia surfacing within him. How long had he been pushing away his homesickness, pushing away his memories? How long, had he been pushing her away, into the deep recesses of his mind? Not even a goodbye kiss, not even a proper goodbye before he left... She must have forgotten him by now. Must have found someone new, perhaps even a few. Yes, his childhood love must have forgotten all about him.
Forgotten all about him...
Seven years.
Time, the greatest barrier against everything.
Seven years.
Ephemeral memories. Bittersweet longing. Heartbreaking fondness. Hidden love. Against time, these bits and pieces of us would wither away, like a dying rose in a cracked glass vase.
Like the swirling thoughts that runs through a love-struck person...
Like the overwhelming emotions in a heartbroken lover...
Seven years.
Was long enough to forget...
Kyo stood as still as time itself as he continued gazing emptily at the clock tower. His blue eyes had an empty look in them, a sign to show that though physically here, his mind was somewhere far away.
'Seven years of being in denial...
Yet I couldn't erase you...'
